China"s service sectors, including entertainment and tourism, saw recovery over the three-day New Year holiday after the optimization of the country"s COVID-19 policy.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the domestic tourism market saw 52.71 million trips during the holiday, a year-on-year increase of 0.44 percent. Revenue generated during the holiday was over 26.52 billion yuan, up 4 percent year-on-year, which was about 35 percent of the revenue created in the same period in 2019, the ministry said.
Inter-provincial travel and long-distance travel recovers in an orderly manner during the three-day holidays, the first holiday since China announced a series of optimized measures in epidemic control and relaxed travel rules in December 2022, data from China Tourism Academy showed.
Beijing, Shanghai and other cities have also launched a series of activities such as New Year consumer festival to promote the overall recovery of consumption. Scenic spots in many Chinese cities launched ice and snow tourism products and entertainment performances to attract tourists during the New Year holiday.
The movie box office also turned better during the holiday. According to Lighthouse, an Alibaba-owned box office tracker, the total box office of 2023 New Year holiday exceeded 500 million yuan, as of 2 p.m. on Monday. Over 10,600 cinemas operated on average during the holiday, 85 percent of the total number nationwide.
Online consumption continues to boom. Data from Meituan, a Chinese e-commerce platform providing life services, showed that in the first two days of the holiday, the online transaction volume of dine-in services in China more than doubled in comparison to the week before, among which, the transaction volume in east China"s Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces increased by more than 230 percent.

经文化和旅游部数据中心测算，2023年元旦节假期，全国国内旅游出游5271.34万人次，同比增长0.44%，按可比口径恢复至2019年元旦节假日同期的42.8%；实现国内旅游收入265.17亿元，同比增长4.0%，恢复至2019年元旦节假日同期的35.1%。全国文化和旅游假日市场总体安全平稳有序。
都市休闲、周边游仍占主流，中远程旅游稳步复苏。元旦期间，城市周边游、近程游、休闲游仍是主流，冰雪、温泉、逛乐园、游湖、露营、围炉煮茶、酒店剧本杀、街区休闲、古镇漫游、看烟花、登山等高品质玩乐体验受到年轻人青睐。
元旦假期三天，全国影院恢复运营水平达到新高，影院营业总数都达到10600家以上，且每天的数量都在增多。其中1月2日全国营业影院总数为10657家，是2022年2月27日以来近10个月的新高，营业率高达85%。为市场复苏提供了基础。从票房上看，灯塔专业版数据显示，截至1月2日19时，2023年元旦档电影总票房达5.38亿元。
1月2日，美团发布的元旦假期消费数据显示，生活服务业正加速回暖，日均消费规模同比2019年增长75%。其中，广东、江苏、北京、浙江、上海、四川等地消费规模位居全国前列。异地消费周环比增长近五成，与本地消费一起成为激发假日经济新动能的引擎。数据显示，假期前两日，全国堂食线上交易额较上周增长超1倍，其中，江苏、浙江相关交易额增长超230%，堂食消费最旺。同时，冬季优质供给助推餐饮消费持续升温，近一周，大众点评必吃榜的主题菜品销量周环比增长664%。
Greater Bay Area, Greater future新使命，大未来Hong Kong SAR government is striving to gradually resume normal travel with the Chinese mainland at the earliest by Jan 8, Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki said in a social media post on Sunday. Chan said that apart from the land ports that are now in operation, other checkpoints will reopen. Initially, a quota will be set for those traveling between Hong Kong and the mainland. The government will also gradually increase the land, air and sea traffic flows between the two sides.
香港争取最早1月8日恢复和内地首阶段“通关”：1月1日下午，香港特区政府政务司司长陈国基在其社交账号发表《回望·展望——落实“四通”目标》一文，其中提到，将努力争取最早在1月8日实施香港与内地首阶段“通关”，并视乎情况进一步扩展“通关”规模，最终达致全面“通关”。陈国基称，除了现时已经开放的口岸外，部分已关闭多时的口岸将会恢复运作。“通关”初期，会为往返内地和香港的旅客预设合适的人数安排，并逐步增加往返内地和香港的海陆空交通班次等，以符合实质需要。
Hong Kong has concluded its first round selections for payload specialists for the national manned space program and nominated 40 qualified candidates that could potentially be part of the fourth class of taikonauts, Secretary of HKSAR Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau Sun Dong said Sunday. A total of 120 people applied for the posts and 40 people, including 20 males and 20 females, passed the first round of selection.
香港完成第一阶段载荷专家选拔：中国第四批预备航天员选拔工作首次在港澳地区选拔载荷专家，香港特区政府创新科技及工业局局长孙东1日表示，香港已完成第一阶段选拔，共向国家推荐40名符合资格的候选人。孙东说，香港地区共有120人报名，40人通过初选，男女各占20人。

China National Railway Corporation sets its 2023 annual passenger transport target at 2.69 billion, up 67.6 percent over last year, the group said during a teleconference on Tuesday, while cargo transport volume will reach 3.97 billion tons this year, up 1.8 percent year over year. It also vows to complete railway investment tasks, especially in Sichuan-Tibet Railway and other key projects, and put into operation more than 3,000 kilometers of new lines. China Railway also expects the total revenue of transportation this year to reach 817.5 billion yuan, an increase of 17.9 percent.

The China-Russia east-route natural gas pipeline has raised its daily gas transmission capacity to 61 million cubic meters since its operation three years ago, and the annual gas transmission volume is expected to exceed 22 billion cubic meters in 2023, media reported on Monday.In 2022, the annual gas transmission volume has exceeded 15 billion cubic meters and the pipeline hasdelivered a total of over 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China over the past three years.

Chinese leading automaker BYD raised prices for its electric vehicles by 2,000 yuan to 6,000 yuan as Tesla said it will offer a 10,000-yuan discount to boost sales in China. BYD sold235,200 new energy vehicles in December, the firm said in a filing on Monday. For the full year of 2022, BYD"s NEV sales hit 1.87 million, a year-on-year increase of over 200 percent, surpassing Tesla’s 2022 sales volume of 1.31 million to become the world’s largest NEV producer.

China will extend the trading hours of the interbank foreign exchange market to 3 am Beijing Time starting today, as part of the country"s latest efforts to expand its high-standard opening-up, the People"s Bank of China said on Friday.

Some 64 securities traders, including China Galaxy Securities, have been approved to start margin trading and short selling on the Beijing Stock Exchange, based on the latest statistics. The BSE is ready for leveraged and short bets, the exchange said less than two months after revealing the related rules. Such transactions will start on Jan. 9 at the soonest, some securities traders predicted.

China"s securities regulator said on Friday that online brokerages Futu Holding and UP Fintech Holding have conducted unlawful securities businesses, and will be asked to take corrective measures. They will be banned from soliciting new business from mainland investors, the China Securities Regulatory Commission said.

Chinese stocks overcame an early bout of volatility on Tuesday to advance on the first day of the New Year as optimism grew that Covid infections may have peaked in some parts of the nation. The benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 0.88 percent, while the Shenzhen Component rose 0.92 percent. Hong Kong stocks also started the year with a healthy gain, with the Hang Seng index closing up 1.84 percent, and the TECH index jumped 2.53 percent.
A股、港股喜迎开门红：周二A股全天低开高走迎来开门红，三大指数均小幅上涨，沪指重新站上3100点。截至收盘，沪指涨0.88%，深成指涨0.92%，创业板指涨0.41%，两市全天成交额7888亿元。港股恒指低开高走，收涨1.84%，恒生科技指数收涨2.53%。
